Hidden beyond the understated frontage of this sweet little store you will find a treasury of vintage items ranging from vinyl records to glomesh bags to purple tulle Cyndi Lauper-esque skirts.  Much of the collection is dedicated to women’s clothes and accessories however there is a small selection of men’s gear which I’m told is going to expand in the near future.

The Bar Dream – The Sandy Bunker

On 15, Jul 2014 | No Comments | In CBD, Events | By Rosie

Description

For those of you who missed the memo The Bar Dream is currently taking place on the level four of the iconic Carlton Hotel.  For the month of July six small licensed spaces will be open to the public, making the dream of opening a bar a reality for six creative Melbournites.  Each bar has a different theme, for the vintage lovers out there I’m guessing The Sandy Bunker will be the pick of the bunch with it’s 1920′s finery and delicious cocktails.  Astor Productions, the team that brought you The Gatsby Winter and Gatsby Spring Soiree, is responsible for the creation of The Sandy Bunker.  This glorious vintage cocktail lounge is full of old world charm and sure to impress!

Vinyl Space

Mid-range Good Quality Mid-size No Frills NO - PRIVATELY OWNED

Description

I stumbled upon this terrific little store a few weekends ago when I was in search of some vintage pendant lights in Thornbury.  Vinyl Space is joint project between Michael Smajdor and Top Hat Antiques, which is located just down the road at 873 High Street.  The store is understated and could easily be missed if you’re experiencing some kind of hangover/post-brunch food coma, a condition I find myself afflicted with most weekends… Anyway, my point is you need to keep you’re eyes peeled.  Alongside the vinyl, there are some excellent lamps, canisters and a wonderfully retro record player.  For those too lazy to leave the comfort of their couch you can also check out the collection on the Vinyl Space website.

Getting Pricey Happy Hunting Mid-size Fancy Pants NO - PRIVATELY OWNED

Description

This beautifully presented vintage store on High Street Northcote stocks a range of homewares and collectables from all over the globe, with French and Belgian pieces featuring prominently.  The owner, Penny Attwill, spent a number of years studying in France. During this time she developed a love of all things French and has since travelled back many times in search of items for her Melbourne store.  La Brocante also stocks a range of new giftware, cards, books and decorative bird houses which dominate the front of the store; most of the vintage wares are located at the rear.  Vintage highlights include number stamps, scales and European maps.

Izzi & Popo

Price Quality Size Vibe NFP
Expensive Superlative Big Fancy Pants NO - PRIVATELY OWNED

Description

From taxidermy to typewriters, you will find all kinds of treasures at Izzi & Popo.  The owners of Izzi & Popo import their stock directly from Belgium, where  local associates stock pile items for shipment to the Melbourne store.  A shipment had arrived on the day of my visit and the staff were busily readying the new items for display.  The store extends across two levels, with the street level presenting a decidedly more polished aesthetic than the basement which is packed to the rafters with a miscellany of homewares, collectables and furniture.
