One Nine One, Bridge Road

It was St Patrick’s day when I visited One Nine One on Bridge Road and the themed window display hinted at the fun and fabulous vintage store that lay beyond.  Inside this Australian Red Cross op-shop you will find a sea of clothes, scarfs, belts, ties, hats, shoes, sunglasses, bags, wallets, books, records, homewares, cameras, disc-mans, suitcases, a small amount of furniture and much more.  From the swish change rooms down to the timber coat hangers it is obvious that a lot of love and attention has been invested in this opportunity shop – there is even the opportunity to try before you buy with a record player and headphones set up amongst the collection of vinyl records.  Many of the accessories look brand new or barely worn and have been carefully sorted and displayed (see photos below).  At the rear of the store you will find the secondhand book section complete with reading chairs, a lovely place to sit if you need a little respite from all that shopping.

This op-shop proves that being both not for profit and retro-fabulous is indeed possible.  Great attention has been paid to the visual merchandising in this store ensuring that your bargain hunting experience is an absolute pleasure!  There is a massive amount of stock on display in this modest vintage shop and by the sounds of it there is more waiting out the back, so if you’re looking for something in particular it may be worth making an enquiry with the helpful staff.  All proceeds go towards supporting the Australian Red Cross and donations are gratefully accepted.  Red cross stores often have half price sale days – so keep you eyes peeled for red dots!  You can sign up to the mailing list to be informed of new arrivals.
