The Brotherhood of St Laurence stands as proof that not for profit stores needn’t lack character or charm as this store has both in abundance.  This opportunity store has really upped its game since last time I visited with a fabulous Hunter Gather ‘fancy section’ at the front of the store, which features an array of fashionable and popular items – fur jackets, dresses, blouses, suitcases, lamps & dressers – hand-picked from the larger BSL collection.  The general stock includes books, bags, scarfs hats, shoes, clothing, homewares, furniture, linen, children’s wear, sunglasses, artwork and much more.

This op-shop has been a favourite of mine for a few years now, particularly if you’re looking for good cheap furniture.  On this occasion the highlights were a grey upholstered armchair, in need of some TLC but with great character ($10), and some divine champagne glasses which I snapped up for $2 (see below).  The collection of books is immaculate – the shelving seems very familiar, I have an inkling the BSL may have benefited from the liquidation of Borders.  Prices vary from the general collection ($) to the more selective Hunter Gather section ($$) but it’s all very reasonably priced.  This vintage store is a must see next time you’re are in Brunswick.
