Description
I recently had the pleasure of visiting the South Melbourne Community Chest. This delightful opportunity shop is treasured by locals, not only for the sweet secondhand collection in store but also the great contribution it makes to the community. The Community Chest is somewhat of an institution in these parts, it’s popularity means that stock is regularly turned over and you will always find something new on display. All items for sale have been donated the proceeds are used to support local community groups, so you can indulge in a spot of shopping and know that you’re helping the community simultaneously – just excellent!
Garage & sidewalk sales

Description
A curious phenomenon is taking place in the inner northern suburbs of Melbourne, and perhaps elsewhere. I’m sure I’m not the only one who has noticed the increasing number of swap-meets, garage and sidewalk sales lining the pavements and median strip of these vibrant suburbs. It seems that many Melbournians interested in recycling their worldly goods are opting to cut out the middle man (markets, op-shops and secondhand stores) and sell their wares directly to passing traffic. Obviously the success of any such sale will likely be determined by the level of pedestrian (and bicycle) traffic in the area.

Description
The Salvos on Smith Street is definitely one of the more vibrant Salvos stores I’ve been to. Presumably the fit-out was inherited from whatever retail space had previously tenanted the space giving this store a bit of a head start as far as visual merchandising is concerned. The collection is well presented and includes clothes, homewares, bags, hats, belts, artwork, jewellery, shoes, books and much more.
