Description
Department of History on High Street, Thornbury is a feast for the senses. The music is rocking, the place smells like furniture polish and there are so many wonderful things to see and touch. The only sense that misses out is taste, sadly I feel that licking the beautiful furniture might be frowned upon by the establishment… and probably wouldn’t taste very nice anyway. This superb vintage store stocks a wide variety of wares from clothes to light fixtures, with stand out pieces including a massive timber desk with leather top in mint condition, loads of old magazines, fabulous glassware and old-school test tubes in timber holders (these were being used as vases in the store – very snazzy).

Description
The Salvos on Smith Street is definitely one of the more vibrant Salvos stores I’ve been to. Presumably the fit-out was inherited from whatever retail space had previously tenanted the space giving this store a bit of a head start as far as visual merchandising is concerned. The collection is well presented and includes clothes, homewares, bags, hats, belts, artwork, jewellery, shoes, books and much more.

Description
As you walk into 20th Century Scandinavia you can smell the furniture polish… and as you move further into the store you will see staff rubbing that furniture polish onto one of that many superlative pieces of furniture housed in this den of wonders. There are tables, armchairs, lamps, desks, buffets (even some with those magical disappearing doors), sideboards, hat stands and cabinets all hailing from a bygone Scandinavia. Out the back you will find loads of chairs, tables, chests of drawer and a vintage pinball machine.

Memorabilia On Smith is a special breed of vintage store with the overwhelming focus being sporting and gaming memorabilia. The window display sets the tone for this chaotic and fascinating secondhand store brimming with nostalgia. Inside you will find loads of sporting memorabilia (mostly AFL), such as team photos, jumpers, footballs, stubbie holders, scarfs, backpacks, crockery and much more. Non-football related collectables include carnival clowns, books, signage (Coopers, Coke, Milk Bar, Peters, railway …etc), lolly jars, toys, figurines, typewriters, posters, Pez dispensers, milkshake topping dispensers, scoreboards, cigarette dispensers.

Description
I have walked passed this store a number of times but had never gone inside. This was because I believed Episode stocked mostly new products, which was the case until recently. Now, it seems, the folks at Episode have shifted their focus to selling solely vintage wears – very pleasing! The collection at Episode Vintage is quite vast and includes men’s and women’s clothing (cycling tops, bomber jackets, leather jackets, shirts, skirts, dresses, jumpers, coats), bags, wallets, scarfs, shoes, homewares, sewing machines, hats and a small collection of furniture. The rear of the store appears to be a work in progress but I’m sure that will be sorted out over the coming weeks/months as Episode transitions to full vintage mode.
