Hidden beyond the understated frontage of this sweet little store you will find a treasury of vintage items ranging from vinyl records to glomesh bags to purple tulle Cyndi Lauper-esque skirts. Much of the collection is dedicated to women’s clothes and accessories however there is a small selection of men’s gear which I’m told is going to expand in the near future.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the South Melbourne Community Chest. This delightful opportunity shop is treasured by locals, not only for the sweet secondhand collection in store but also the great contribution it makes to the community. The Community Chest is somewhat of an institution in these parts, it’s popularity means that stock is regularly turned over and you will always find something new on display. All items for sale have been donated the proceeds are used to support local community groups, so you can indulge in a spot of shopping and know that you’re helping the community simultaneously – just excellent!

I had driven past The Mill Market in Newcomb many times, for those of you who frequent the Bellarine peninsula you have most likely spotted the massive orange barn on the outskirts of Geelong. It was only recently that I found time to pop in and rummage through what can only be described as a secondhand megastore. The two levels of The Mill are brimming with goodies including retro speaker systems, homewares, kitchen cabinets, records, chairs, books, baskets, fishing rods, ladders, clothing, bikes, lamps, shoes, basins, rollerskates, chairs, fans, birdcages… You can even find giant plastic ice-creams in this place!
You will find the St George’s Parish Bargain Op Shop amongst the hustle and bustle of Racecourse Rd in Flemington. Behind the lovely Victorian facade you will find a miscellany of goods including books, clothing, children’s wear, furniture, homewares, linen, baskets, VHS, records, belts, ties, hats, wallets, shoes, games – even a backgammon set. This store is not for profit and the prices are very affordable so you can go nuts and not burn too large a hole in your pocket!
What could be better than spending a beautiful summer’s day on the beach? Spending the day on the beach AND shopping for rad secondhand goodies at Restyle Threads in Rye! In amongst the many cafes, ice-cream vendors, juice stores and hamburger joints of Rye’s main drag you will find this unassuming secondhand store. Restyle Threads has some quality secondhand goods – mostly fairly mundane with the occasional gem. Whilst in store I picked up a lovely secondhand Laura Ashley wool hat and a brown Italian made leather bag – excellent!
