Description

This post has been a long time coming.  I walk past Mode 707 on my lunch break most days and on the few occasions that I had remembered to bring my camera my attempts to review this fabulous vintage store were stymied by their Thursday -Sunday only opening hours.  But finally, last week it all fell into place and let me tell you it was worth the wait!  Inside is a delightful collection of homewares, furniture and electrical goods along with a series of beautiful black and white photographs of Melbourne back in its heyday.

Retroactive

Retroactive sits behind an unassuming facade on high street Northcote.  Inside you’ll find a collection of mostly mid-century furniture along with some homewares, wall art, periodicals and records.  This store also stocks a range of new giftware and accessories to complement the secondhand goods.  There is a good mix of vintage wares, the highlight for me was the lovely lamps on display.

Grandfathers Axe

Price Quality Size Vibe NFP

Description

Grandfathers Axe is a Mecca for those seeking vintage furniture, particularly Danish furniture.  Despite its size it is quite easy to miss this massive secondhand furniture warehouse which is set back for High Street in Northcote.  Inside you will find a sea of sofas, chairs, dining suites, wall units, lights and sideboards, and with a new container of stock arriving from Europe every few weeks the range is constantly changing.  Grandfathers Axe’s comprehensive website is updated regularly to help keep you abreast of the new items, but to be honest nothing compares to seeing and feeling the pieces in the flesh.
