This post has been a long time coming. I walk past Mode 707 on my lunch break most days and on the few occasions that I had remembered to bring my camera my attempts to review this fabulous vintage store were stymied by their Thursday -Sunday only opening hours. But finally, last week it all fell into place and let me tell you it was worth the wait! Inside is a delightful collection of homewares, furniture and electrical goods along with a series of beautiful black and white photographs of Melbourne back in its heyday.

It’s time to welcome new kid on the block – Vintage Stash! The owner, Maryanne Loughland, recently moved to Melbourne from Wagga Wagga and has brought with her loads of vintage goodies which can be found in her Smith Street store. The stock has been sourced from all around the globe with some items being imported directly from Europe, United States and New Zealand while other items have been procured locally from clearing sales and markets in NSW and Victoria. The collection of vintage goods sit harmoniously alongside new jewellery, artworks and homewares supplied by local artists.
Garage & sidewalk sales

Description
A curious phenomenon is taking place in the inner northern suburbs of Melbourne, and perhaps elsewhere. I’m sure I’m not the only one who has noticed the increasing number of swap-meets, garage and sidewalk sales lining the pavements and median strip of these vibrant suburbs. It seems that many Melbournians interested in recycling their worldly goods are opting to cut out the middle man (markets, op-shops and secondhand stores) and sell their wares directly to passing traffic. Obviously the success of any such sale will likely be determined by the level of pedestrian (and bicycle) traffic in the area.

If you head east down Johnston street from the vintage hub of Fitzroy you will happen upon Reclaimed, a fabulous collection of secondhand goods and furniture constructed from recycled materials. The store is run by Rick and Jane, specialising in industrial and up-cycled homewares and furniture. Rick custom makes tables from recycled timber – if you like furniture with texture and character these will be right up your alley. The folks at Reclaimed also source large set lights which are then mounted on tripods to create wonderful and striking standing lamps.

Description
Welcome to vintage nirvana! This pre-loved paradise consists of a series of small stalls run by individual stakeholders, resulting in pockets of hand selected vintage stock each with its own flavour and focus – some are filled with cameras, many are crammed with clothes and shoes, while others are brimming with homewares and furniture. The Lost and Found Market has been running since 2004, during this time it has shifted to various locations in Collingwood, most recently to Perry Street, just off Smith Street. Ross (the owner) and his team have once again demonstrated their capacity to turn an empty warehouse into a vintage wonderland. Their clever layout and manipulation of space will guide you on a journey through the cornucopia of stock – this thrift store is massive, so be prepared to spend many hours absorbing its vintage delights.
