Community Chest – South Melbourne

Price Quality Size Vibe NFP
Cheap Hit and Miss Mid-size No Frills YES - NOT FOR PROFIT

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the South Melbourne Community Chest.  This delightful opportunity shop is treasured by locals, not only for the sweet secondhand collection in store but also the great contribution it makes to the community.  The Community Chest is somewhat of an institution in these parts, it’s popularity means that stock is regularly turned over and you will always find something new on display.  All items for sale have been donated the proceeds are used to support local community groups, so you can indulge in a spot of shopping and know that you’re helping the community simultaneously – just excellent!

The Verdict

You might expect an op-shop in heartland to South Melbourne to have suitably inflated prices, I was very pleased to see that that was not the case at South Melbourne Community Chest.  There is a wide range of very reasonably priced items and I’m told that the stock here is the cream of donated crop so you’re sure to find a few treasures (and don’t stress, that stuff that doesn’t make the cut is passed on to other charities to ensure that nothing goes to waste).  Thanks to the friendly staff, in particular Dallas for taking the time to chat to me.
