$$$$ Price guide: expensive

Mode 707

Price Quality Size Vibe NFP
Expensive  Superlative Mid-size

This post has been a long time coming.  I walk past Mode 707 on my lunch break most days and on the few occasions that I had remembered to bring my camera my attempts to review this fabulous vintage store were stymied by their Thursday -Sunday only opening hours.  But finally, last week it all fell into place and let me tell you it was worth the wait!  Inside is a delightful collection of homewares, furniture and electrical goods along with a series of beautiful black and white photographs of Melbourne back in its heyday.

The Verdict

From the many occasions that I have peered longingly in the window of Mode 707 I’ve gathered that the turnover off stock is quite rapid so if you see something you like, snap it up as it may not be there next time you visit.  This is the kind of vintage store that can be a little intimidating but rest assured John Eggleton, the owner, is super friendly and passionate about his vintage wares.  As is the case with most vintage stores on Smith Street the prices here are not cheap but even if you cannot afford any of the lovely items in Mode 707 it’s still fun to look!
