Love vintage? Love to shop online? Have you met Nasty Gal? I think you guys will get along famously! Nasty Gal is the brain child of Sophia Amoruso and while it’s not exclusively vintage there is some amazing clothing in the collection. Nasty Gal is based in L.A. and ships to Australia with a flat rate of $15.
Department of History on High Street, Thornbury is a feast for the senses. The music is rocking, the place smells like furniture polish and there are so many wonderful things to see and touch. The only sense that misses out is taste, sadly I feel that licking the beautiful furniture might be frowned upon by the establishment… and probably wouldn’t taste very nice anyway. This superb vintage store stocks a wide variety of wares from clothes to light fixtures, with stand out pieces including a massive timber desk with leather top in mint condition, loads of old magazines, fabulous glassware and old-school test tubes in timber holders (these were being used as vases in the store – very snazzy).
Out of town

I had driven past The Mill Market in Newcomb many times, for those of you who frequent the Bellarine peninsula you have most likely spotted the massive orange barn on the outskirts of Geelong. It was only recently that I found time to pop in and rummage through what can only be described as a secondhand megastore. The two levels of The Mill are brimming with goodies including retro speaker systems, homewares, kitchen cabinets, records, chairs, books, baskets, fishing rods, ladders, clothing, bikes, lamps, shoes, basins, rollerskates, chairs, fans, birdcages… You can even find giant plastic ice-creams in this place!
Prepare yourself for the visual onslaught that is My Delirium. Split over two levels this recent addition to Johnston Street is bursting with colour… literary, it’s spilling out onto the pavement. Beyond the glass and metal clad facade you will find an array of women’s clothing, shoes and accessories. The collection is small but sensational and all stock is in great condition.

Given its status as a south side vintage institution, it would be remiss of me to not to visit The Chapel Street Bazaar whilst in Prahran. Like many other secondhand stores of this scale the Chapel Street Bazaar is broken up into individual stalls, each curated by a different pre-loved purveyor. Inside this enormous shop you will find a cacophony of goodies including furniture, glassware, crockery, telephones, crystal, canistes, lamps, stamps, slides, records, dolls & figurines, record players, shoes, clothing, watches, jewellery, globes, cameras, model boats, rocking horses… I could go on for days – seriously!
