The Mill Market – Newcomb

Price Quality Size Vibe NFP

Description

I had driven past The Mill Market in Newcomb many times, for those of you who frequent the Bellarine peninsula you have most likely spotted the massive orange barn on the outskirts of Geelong.  It was only recently that I found time to pop in and rummage through what can only be described as a secondhand megastore.  The two levels of The Mill are brimming with goodies including retro speaker systems, homewares, kitchen cabinets, records, chairs, books, baskets, fishing rods, ladders, clothing, bikes, lamps, shoes, basins, rollerskates, chairs, fans, birdcages… You can even find giant plastic ice-creams in this place!

Chapel Street Bazaar

Price Quality Size Vibe NFP

Description

Given its status as a south side vintage institution, it would be remiss of me to not to visit The Chapel Street Bazaar whilst in Prahran.  Like many other secondhand stores of this scale the Chapel Street Bazaar is broken up into individual stalls, each curated by a different pre-loved purveyor.  Inside this enormous shop you will find a cacophony of goodies including furniture, glassware, crockery, telephones, crystal, canistes, lamps, stamps, slides, records, dolls & figurines, record players, shoes, clothing, watches, jewellery, globes, cameras, model boats, rocking horses… I could go on for days – seriously!

Mission Op Shop – Chapel Street

Price Quality Size Vibe NFP

Description

The Mission Op Shop was a little hectic when I visited, with staff and donations in abundance, there is potential for this opportunity shop to be quite lovely once it settles into its groove.  The front of the store is brimming with men’s and women’s clothing whilst out the back you will find books, CDs, games, records, shoes, accessories and sporting equipment – there was even a set of retro golf clubs!  The slightly disorderly stock makes for good rummaging and there are plenty of staff around to assist with any queries you might have.  The Mission is currently recruiting volunteers, offering training and a supportive work environment for people overcoming mental illness.  Donations are welcome and all proceeds from the store go towards supporting The Mission.

Lost & Found – Brunswick

Price Quality Size Vibe NFP

As you may have guessed this marvellous vintage store on Lygon Street is the sibling of the Lost & Found Market in Collingwood.  Consequently, I had great expectations… and it delivered!  Similar to the Perry Street outpost, the Brunswick Lost & Found is divided into stalls each with its own theme and focus.  Some stalls specialise is stereos and record players, others feature bikes and many of the stalls stock furniture, clothing, accessories, homewares and collectables – you really must see it for yourself to understand the magnitude of this collection!
