I had driven past The Mill Market in Newcomb many times, for those of you who frequent the Bellarine peninsula you have most likely spotted the massive orange barn on the outskirts of Geelong. It was only recently that I found time to pop in and rummage through what can only be described as a secondhand megastore. The two levels of The Mill are brimming with goodies including retro speaker systems, homewares, kitchen cabinets, records, chairs, books, baskets, fishing rods, ladders, clothing, bikes, lamps, shoes, basins, rollerskates, chairs, fans, birdcages… You can even find giant plastic ice-creams in this place!
Like other secondhand stores of this scale the Mill Market is made up many stalls leased to collectors looking for somewhere to sell their wares, this business model allows for a hugely diverse range of goods to be housed under the one roof. You won’t find any hipsters behind the counter of this preloved store, The Mill Market is run by a lovely bunch of (almost exclusively) silver haired folk. There is no fancy fit out to be found here, just a simple, no fuss back drop to the hoards of stock. The quality of goods is high and well maintained, stand out items include some amazing chunky industrial furniture, crazy upholstered sounds system, lots of lovely ladders and old school desks – well worth a visit! There are more Mill Markets located in Ballarat and Daylesford.
